Staff Professional Development Day

17 May 2016 by

All MacKillop Staff were involved in what was a very rich and informative professional development day surrounding the theme “Resilience”. Beginning with a staff prayer gathering in the Chapel of St Mary of the Cross, we moved to the Moreno Centre to view an inspiring documentary film, directed by Tom Shadyac, called “I AM”. After reflecting and responding to the underlying message of this documentary we then had the pleasure of listening to Mr Hugh van Cuylenburg who spoke to us about how to embrace the idea of practicing and teaching resilience as a significant supporter of mental health.

Hugh was speaking to us not only about our personal wellbeing but also as a means of supporting our students. As a story teller, our staff certainly appreciated his laconic style and his insightful observations in the area of resilience. A visit to his website, “The Resilience Project” , is a wonderful journey to take and we could only encourage all of our community to engage in this online resource.

Overall the day was very well received by our staff and as educators hope that this experience will enable us to better support not only our own wellbeing but the wellbeing of our students.
