SMC: 9Ivory Excursion to Mary MacKillop
On Friday 2 November, St Mary’s Campus students from 9 Ivory attended the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre for an intensive learning experience about the life of Mary MacKillop, the establishment of the Sisters of St Joseph, and the works the Sisters do both in Australia and overseas.
Sister Judith and Sister Veronica were very informative and highlighted some of the wonderful support the Sisters gave to the people of Melbourne in the late 1800s in the Little Lon district. We also strolled through the Treasury Gardens to Captain Cook’s Cottage where we sat for lunch before journeying to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral for mass and a student led discovery tour. Archbishop Comensoli said Mass celebrating All Souls Day. We were in awe of the grandeur of the Cathedral and very interested to learn about the architect, William Wardell, the beautiful entrance and stained glass windows, the crypt, the organ and the Pilgrim’s Path.
