Dramatic Senior Cricket Grand Final!
On Wednesday 29th March, Mackillop’s run of success in Senior Cricket came to an end in a dramatic Final at Salesian College in Sunbury.
Attempting to win it’s fourth consecutive SACCSS title, MacKillop went down to its archrival in a two over play-off after the Final finished in a nail biting tie. Salesian batted first and raced to 0/49 off five overs before the MacKillop boys rallied to restrict them to 8/112 off their twenty overs. In reply, MacKillop got off to a shaky start, slumping to 2/5 off four overs before co-captains Darcy Phillips and Nathan Caulfield put their team back in the game with an outstanding partnership. However, after a flurry of late wickets and a gripping final over, a single off the last ball of the game resulted in the scores being locked on 112. In order to break the deadlock a two over game was then played with MacKillop scoring 2/21 from their twelve balls. Salesian lost one wicket before finishing with a towering six off the second last ball to secure victory in an amazing game.
SCORES: Salesian 8/112 (Darcy Insall 3/29, Shenan Dias 2/14) tied with MacKillop 8/112 (Darcy Phillips 50 retired, Nathan Caulfield 24)
