Design Technology Excursion – Student Perspective

On Friday 12 March, the Year 10 IT is Everywhere, Year 10 Way of the Web and Year 11 Applied Computing class went on an excursion to the Wyndham Tech School. The day was divided into three different activities:

  • Robotics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Unity Game Design.

In the Robotics room, small groups worked together to use block-based coding to teach a robot how to move and even recognise voice commands. For the Artificial Intelligence activity, we built a program that differentiated between different people’s faces, different sounds and different poses.

Finally, the Game design activity had all the students learn how to develop a very small game using prebuilt game models, props and character bases in Unity. Whilst we were working on the game development, we had the opportunity to put on a Virtual Reality (VR) headset and have a look around at a VR replica of Mars, which the instructor had made.

Overall everyone had a really fun day and enjoyed the experience a lot!
