COVID-19 – 27 July UPDATE 1

27 July 2020 by

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This morning we have been advised that a further student has tested positive for COVID-19 and is awaiting confirmation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Following the advice from Catholic Education Melbourne (CEM) and DHHS, the College will now be closed until Wednesday 5 August. We will advise you as soon as more information on this comes to hand, or should anything change.

We are currently engaging in an infection control clean of the entire College.

This unfortunately means that no staff member or student can have access to any area of the College grounds until Monday 3 August. We understand this will cause difficulty for some students, unfortunately there is little we can do about this and ask that individuals use their creativity to find solutions.

This closure will allow time for the College and the DHHS to work through a contact and containment strategy. Contact tracing in schools can take a couple of days and we will give an update when this has been completed.

This includes identifying and notifying all people who have been in close contact with the students who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Affected staff, students and their families will be notified by the DHHS in the coming days and supported to ensure they understand what actions to take.

All students are advised to remain at home while this occurs. You must limit your movements to home-based activities and not attend public places. This includes attendance at part-time work and other commitments outside the home. This will remain in place until advised otherwise by DHHS.

Family/household members of students who have been advised to remain home, are asked to take extra precaution if they need to leave home for one of the four essential reasons currently permitted by the Stage 3 Lockdown rules.

There is no requirement for students to undertake a COVID-19 test during this period unless advised to by the DHHS, or experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.

We understand this news will be concerning for many of you. We want to assure you we are doing everything we can to contain and suppress the spread of the virus and ensure the health and safety of our whole school community.

The College is being supported by the DHHS and the CEM on our next steps and appropriate action.

More information regarding COVID-19 is available on the DHHS website.

Please be aware, however, that the College will be closed to all staff. No building access will be available.

Stay safe and well.

Kind regards,
Rory Kennedy,
