COVID-19 – 20 March Update 2

20 March 2020 by

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have received a number of requests to send work home for students who are not attending school for reasons other than illness. At this stage the school’s decision to stay open is based on advice from the Australian and Victorian Chief Medical Officers. When advice from the Chief Medical Officers changes, we will communicate those changes to our school community.

With this in mind, our current stance is that the College is open and students should therefore be attending unless they are unwell. A teacher’s key role at the College is, at this point in time, to teach the students presenting in class. They are also preparing for the possibility of providing learning continuity for students in the event that schools are asked to close. As such, in the interest of staff wellbeing, a decision has been made that, until the end of Term 1, teachers will not be able to provide work for students who are not attending. This includes all reasons for non-attendance. This decision will be reviewed for the commencement of Term 2. Please be reassured that students will not be penalised for this decision.

We understand these are difficult and challenging times and know that in the event that schools are asked to close we will be prepared to ensure a continuity of learning for all students. We thank you for your understanding and support at this time.

Regards,
Rory Kennedy
Principal
