Our Catholic Identity

College Chaplain Profile

01 June 2017 by

At MacKillop College we are in the lucky position of having three College Chaplains who work with us at the College. These gentlemen guide and support us in our mission as a Catholic community.

Each week for the next three weeks we will highlight each one of College Chaplains by sharing a brief biography.  This week it is Fr Shymon’s turn under the microscope.

Fr. Shymon Thekkekalathungal IVDei was born in Kerala, in the southern part of India. He entered the Seminary in 1998. He belongs to a secular Institute called “Institut Voluntas Dei”, which is a Latin term meaning “Will of God”. The Charism of this Institute is to do the will of God “wherever Christ has his rights”.
Fr. Shymon was ordained on 1st March 2009 and was appointed Assistant Priest at St. Albert’s Church in Muthiyavila, Kerala. He was then appointed Priest-in-Charge and subsequently Parish Priest in the same Parish until 2014, when he was asked by the Director of the Institute to travel to Australia for the mission.

Responding to the will of God, Fr. Shymon arrived in Australia on 12th November 2014. He was appointed Assistant Priest at St. Andrew’s Parish, Werribee by His Grace, Archbishop Denis Hart on 28th January 2015. Fr. Shymon is delighted to do the will of God here.
