Acknowledgement of Country
Mr Kennedy and Sr Therese Quinn discussing our Kulin window.
On Friday 27 May at lunchtime the College Captains unveiled the College’s Acknowledgement of Country. This coincided with the opening day of National Reconciliation week which held the theme of Our History, Our Story and Our Future.
Our Acknowledgement of Country was developed by MacKillop College in conjunction with First People Elder, Aunty Helen, and endorsed by Catholic Education Melbourne. Wathaurong (named after the clan whose boundaries included the Werribee River) Glass produced the acknowledgment on one of their glass pieces.
It is only fitting that these works of art will be housed in the near future beside the office in the foyer of the Sr Giovanni Administration building and St Mary’s Campus reception – places of gathering. It will enrich our community.
In moving forward the College:
• acknowledges a painful history and our common link to land
• reconciles this by seeking forgiveness while recognising injustice
• forges our new understanding and endeavour to work together and
• builds a legacy which entails a deeper wisdom regarding our respect of a future shared
