Another term done, and it’s been great to see students and staff coming in for some holiday reading. Personally, I’ll be tackling a couple of dystopian series, assuming there are some still on the shelves by the end of the day.
For our Year 12 students though, it’s all about study as their final exams approach. It has been many years since I was in Year 12, but I still remember my swot vac quite clearly. I was in a Stephen King phase, so I spent each day sitting in the sun reading his recently released It. This approach to exams was clearly reflected in my results, so it’s not a strategy I recommend!
We see many Year 12s throughout the year: studying, socialising or participating in heated UNO games. In Term 4, however, the school library also becomes a haven to calm nerves or have one last glance of notes. Our office door is open to anyone feeling a bit emotional, who might need a quiet moment with a box of tissues. If you have a Year 12 student this year, make sure they know they are welcome to ask for any help, even if it’s as simple as providing an extra pen or solving calculator emergencies; we’ll do what we can.
Wishing you all a restorative break on behalf of the library team.
